In the middle of the St Joseph River, near Berrien Springs Mi, there are these old railroad pillars that stand like Sentinels watching over the river. Once upon a time, the Interurban railway made its way through this area. Beginning in 1898 it ran through cities in Southwestern Lower Michigan (Berrien County) through Northern Indiana, (Laporte and St Joseph County) and into Chicago. The Interurban railway service was abandoned and replaced with buses in 1934.
As many of the things that attract my attention, a part of our history that stands to fall into ruins.
